To set up this tracking, firstly you need to set a few things-
So first of all we need to find where your contact number is located. FYI you can also use this to track the email address click. For our example, we will use the following contact number as an example to track whenever some user clicks the phone number on our website.
So we are trying to track the phone link whenever a user clicks the phone link on your website
So, first, you need to right-click on the phone number and click on Inspect
And if the link starts with the “tel:” then you can treat it like a phone link
Now you need to go into Google Tag manager
In Trigger section
Click URL Starts with tel:
In the Tag section
You need to give the proper naming convention for the event which is space replaced with _ and all lowercase
link_url
{{Click URL}}
link_text
{{Click Text}}
After configuring the GA4 tag, use the “Preview” mode in GTM to test its functionality.
